Week 16/Turkey Day

Gobble, Gobble! Time to check in on our little turkey this week!
Picture
What's Baby Up To:
  • Listening to my voice, thanks to tiny bones forming in their ears! (Just in time to hear me belt out Mariah Carey's Christmas album...lucky baby!) :)
  • Growing hair, lashes, & eyebrows!
  • Forming taste buds!
  • Chest is expanding and contracting, drawing amniotic fluid into lungs to prepare the lungs for breathing.

How's Mama?
Still doing fine! Sometime's I am definitely sporting a pregnancy pooch and other times my stomach looks close to flat. Since it is not consistent I can only guess that the fluctuation is caused more by bloat and food than by baby. Although I am not eager to gain weight, I am looking forward to a more noticeable bump so that people can tell I am pregnant and not just skipping out on a few of the stomach stretches in yoga class because I'm lazy! ;)

The only new thing I have noticed is that when I climb stairs, I can feel a small mass in my lower abdomen. Kinda neat, since it is really the only time I have been able to feel something in there!

Turkey Day Fun
I really thought Thanksgiving this year would be a whole new level of awesome since I'd be eating for two, but I probably ate less than usual. Eh. I can make up for it at Christmas, I suppose! ;)

Mason and I enjoyed getting to see family members that we had not yet seen since the announcement of our  little one! We also got lots of practice playing with some of the littlest members of our family, Mason's second cousins, Maycie & Ian.

I'm not sure what his secret is, but Mason is a bonafide baby whisperer! Babies always love to come to him! Hoping this magic works on Baby G as well. :)

We hope that you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving! We have so very much to be thankful for this year! :)

Week 15

Orange you glad another week has flown by?! Ok, I'll stop....but be sure and thank "G-Daddy" for teaching me all of his best corny jokes!
Picture
What's Baby Up To?
  • Squirming a ton (though I still can't feel my little wiggle worm)!
  • Hiccuping!
  • Joints and limbs can all move now.
  • Eyelids are still closed, but they can now sense light.

How's Mama?
Symptoms: I have been having occasional stabbing pains in my lower abdomen (mostly on my right side, but sometimes on left).  After a quick google search and WebMD self-diagnosis I found out that it is called Round Ligament pain. The round ligament connects the womb to the groin and as baby grows it will stretch. Any sudden movements like sneezing, coughing, getting up quickly, or rolling over in bed can cause a quick jabbing feeling. Not very pleasant, but glad to know there is nothing wrong with bebe.

Weight gain: Up about 2 pounds right now. Might be attributed to baby... or eating carbs, hard to be sure. Though still not much of a belly to show yet.

Cravings: None really right now. My ravenous hunger has calmed down a lot, so I'm basically back to eating normal pre-pregnancy amounts. Although I will never pass down chocolate in the afternoons. :)

Well... that's all the news for now. Mommy gets the whole week off next week for Thanksgiving Break and is looking forward to resting, decorating for Christmas, and spending time with family!

Baby G,

You don't really have a room with a view at this point, but you've definitely been along for the ride during these past 3 months. I wanted to give you a quick re-cap of all the cool places and events you've gotten to tag along with mommy and daddy to!

brunch

Picture
Aww... Mommy's last drink at Brunch for a very looong time. Technically you were already around, but I'm pretty sure you weren't connected to my blood stream yet. If so, sorry... I mean... you're welcome! Most parents don't let their kiddos take a sip until they are 21. But I'm not like a regular mom... ;)

first longhorn game

Picture
Your very first Longhorn game and first trip to Cowboys Stadium! Daddy's company has a suite on the 50 yard line and we were lucky enough to score tickets to the game and even got to bring "Lissey" along! We also had access to a free top-shelf open bar... Mommy was sad to miss out.

PS: The Longhorns played a good game, but lost.

first UT Home game

We don't have any pictures from this weekend, but your very first Texas home game was against Baylor. Again, a close game, but we lost! You're 0 for 2 Baby! Despite the loss, we had so much fun with Aunt Lauren & Uncle Justin. Here is a video of mommy sharing the news with Lauren about you!

Tx/ou weekend

Picture
Picture
Your first picture with Bevo! Sorry... I'm totally blocking your shot. TX/OU Weekend is probably the biggest social weekend of the year in Dallas for Mommy & Daddy. This year we attended a friend's annual party and watched the game at a bar with some friends. But it was definitely a more laid back weekend for us than in year's past.

rOCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW

Picture
Aunt Lauren came in town for work and we all went to see a live performance of the Rocky Horror Picture Show! I'm glad your little eyes were covered, because my, oh, my... what a wild show! Daddy was even hit on by some of the male performers! We'll take you to go see it again when you're 35!

first wedding

Picture
Another trip to Austin! We went to Jace & Katie Pirtle's wedding in Austin and you got to help mama bust a move on the dance floor! We also got to celebrate Aunt Keisha's 28th Birthday! A fun weekend!

halloween

Picture
Mommy won the costume contest at school for her interpretation of Mary Poppins! Woohoo! Couldn't have done it without you bebe! :)
Picture
AND your Daddy made it on Channel 8 News on the very same day for his mad candy passing out skills! Your parents are kind of a big deal! ;)

Tennis Lessons

Picture
Mommy decided to take up tennis with her girl friends and has developed quite a serve! She probably will never beat Daddy, but has had so much fun learning! Thanks for being a trooper and not cramping my game!

Daddy & Cameron's 31st Birthday

Unfortunately we do not have any photos to commemorate this fun weekend spent in Houston, but you were there celebrating right along with us (in your birthday suit, no less)! ;) Happy, happy birthday Daddy & Uncle Cameron!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
And that concludes part one of your adventures from inside the womb! Thanks for being so chill and letting Mommy and Daddy continue to have so much fun! You're the best!! We love having you as our little sidekick!
Love, Mommy & Daddy        XOXOXO
Hellooo 2nd Trimester! (Week 14)
Adios Trimester Numero Uno!
Welp... That wasn't so bad. The first trimester pretty much flew by and thus far, I have had the easiest pregnancy I could have ever hoped for! I know that is completely obnoxious to those who have had to suffer through theirs, but I'll take what I can get! Thanks bebe, I owe you one! ;)
This week our little love is the size of a....
Picture
What's Baby Up To?
  • Sucking their thumb and wiggling their toes! (Oh my goodness! Adorable!)
  • Kidneys are making urine, and liver and spleen are doing their jobs too! (So does that mean mommy can have a glass of wine?)
  • Growing lanugo, a thin, peach-fuzz-like, hair, all over their body that will help them keep warm. It'll eventually shed before birth...unless we are having a little monkey!
  • Hair is also starting to sprout on their head!
How's Mama?
Nothing exciting to report about little ol' me this week. No symptoms, no weight gain, no bump. Although I did shed a tear or two at a video montage about Veteran's day during zero period yesterday. But you would too. That shit was moving!
If the doctor hadn't assured me 100% that there is a baby on board, I might begin to wonder. The only notable thing for now is that occasionally I have little muscle spasms in my stomach. Kinda seems like I can feel the baby moving, but I think it is just my stomach contracting/stretching. Supposedly you can't feel baby until around 18-22 weeks.
Come on little lemon head - everyone's waiting to see you! :)
26 more weeks to go!
Baby Announcement
With a good checkup at the doctor's office,  it was finally time to tell the world of Baby Guinn's impending arrival!
On Thursday, Nov. 6th at 5:08pm, Baby Guinn made their BIG debut on Facebook!
Picture
We had the BEST time watching the news go viral and getting notifications from so many of our friends and family members, coworkers, old high school friends, and acquaintances who "Liked" our status and sent us their congratulations. Such a happy, happy day! We are so relieved to finally be open to all about our very exciting news!
Here is a close up of the announcement we posted:
Picture
My very sweet and talented friend Adrian, took our Announcement photos for us several weeks ago. Originally, we had planned to announce before Halloween, so several of them are more "pumpkin themed". I think they turned out great!
13 week appointment
Another week, another adorable fruit.... This week Baby G is just peachy!
  • Forming vocal cords and teeth!
  • They already have fingerprints!
  • Intestines are moving from umbilical cord to their tummy.
Our Doctor's Appointment
Today, we had our first appointment at the hospital. Because I was rescheduled, due to my doctor being sick, I saw another doctor from the practice. We got to the office and after all the normal check in stuff, they asked me if I had gotten my flu shot yet. I have NEVER gotten a flu shot, but they pretty much said I had to. So YOU'RE VERY WELCOME BABY G, I broke my perfect no flu shot streak. Hopefully we will not be getting sick this winter!
Once we got into our exam room with Dr. Thurston, who happened to write the book that I am reading ("1000 Questions About Your Pregnancy"), we were a little saddened to find out that we would not get a sonogram during this visit. We are dying to see how much our little one has grown!
He did, however rub the jelly on my stomach (just like in the movies) and found the heartbeat with the little machine thing that they also use in the movies - so glam I know! It took about 45 seconds to hear it clearly.... a very long wait for nervous parents to be! But there it was - a strong, steady heartbeat! 152 bpm!
Dr. Thurston said that an old wives tale says that anything over 140 bpm means it's a girl, anything under a boy! But that it isn't always true, of course! Guess we will find out at our next appointment! We are scheduled for a sonogram on Dec. 5th and will hopefully, fingers crossed,  find out the sex at that appointment!
Our doctor said that being at 13 weeks, and with a strong heartbeat, there was little cause for worry - that there is less than a 1% chance of miscarriage at this point. Definitely puts our mind at ease a little more.
That's all the news we have for now! Stay tuned... :)
canceled.
I must have gotten a combined 15 reminder emails, texts and phone calls in the past week to remind us of our doctor's appointment that was for today. As if I could possibly forget. Pregnant people obsessively countdown days and weeks.
I have already passed the 12 week mark of pregnancy, a time when most people would have announced their delightful news to the world. We, however, decided that we would wait a few extra days until after this appointment, just to be on the safe side, before sharing.
Today, when I got a phone call from an odd number and then a voicemail on my cell phone while at work, I feared the worst and sadly was correct in my assumption. My doctor's office calling to cancel on me because my doctor is sick.
NOOOOOOOOOO! Don't they realize we are tired of waiting? That we are dying to share the news with everyone?!? That Mason already took off a half day at work to attend this appointment?! That every. single. day. we have to wait is excruciating!!!
I called the doctor's office back to try to get an appointment with another doctor for today, but no such luck. We will now have to wait until Thursday afternoon and it won't even be with my doctor. Fabulous.  So I guess we wait....
Another 48 hours until Baby G's world debut.... we hope.
week 12
I'm quite a few days late with this post and am now closer to 13 weeks than 12, but in the spirit of documentation, here goes...
Picture
What's Baby Up To?
  • Most of their critical systems are fully formed.
  • About to the enter the stage of growth and maturation where tissues and organs will grow and develop rapidly!
  • Developing reflexes.
  • Opening and closing fingers and curling toes (awwww!).
  • Brain is developing fast.
How's Mama?
Symptoms: None at all. I am feeling great!! My extreme hunger from last week has settled down, as well, thankfully!
Weight Gain: Only up about a 1/2 pound. But apparently in my next trimester I can expect to gain 2-3 pounds a week. (Wonderful...) No, but really, I'm ready for my baby bump to make it's appearance. I really don't have one at all currently and with no symptoms to speak of I really don't feel very pregnant.
Cravings: Peppermint Ice Cream and Christmas! I'm not sure why, but I have been obsessed with celebrating Christmas for the past few months. Usually I'm the kind of person that wants to enjoy one holiday at a time, but right now I am chomping at the bit to put our tree up and have visions of sugar plums dancing in my head! I haven't given in yet- but it's been tough. I did cave on the peppermint ice cream last night though and it was glorious. Maybe Mason and I are the proud parents of Buddy the Elf!
Picture
Mason and I are anxiously awaiting our next doctor's appointment this Tuesday! If everything is good with baby we will announce the news of our precious plum to the world (aka Facebook)! :)
