1st Trip to Austin/San Antonio

If I had gone back to work, this would have been "Back to School" week for me, but since I'm currently Hadley's full-time stay at home tutor, we decided to blaze the trail down South to celebrate no-school this year and for a little family visit.

Luckily, Lissie had the week off of work as well and was able to make the trek with us, because I've found... it is always better to travel with two if Hadley suddenly decides that she must get out of her car seat RIGHT NOOOOWW. Though we had no issue on the way down to Austin as Hadley peacefully slept like an angel the entire ride down!

We had dinner with Uncle Connor and his girlfriend Melanie on our first night in Austin. He had not seen Hadley since she was born and oh my how she has grown since then...

The next morning the four of us (Lissie, Connor, Hadley and I) headed to San Antonio to visit my Dad & Saleta (G-Daddy & Nana). We first stopped off at their house and visited for a bit before heading to lunch at Mi Tierra. Hadley was clearly very excited to see them!

After lunch, we hit the Mexican Market across the street in search of some Mexican dresses for Miss H. Here is one of the adorable dresses Nana bought for her:

Hadley enjoyed being pushed around the Market by G-Daddy who knows his way around a stroller. Uncle Connor picked up a few strolling skills himself throughout the day.

After our trip to the market and a short tour of La Villita Arts Village we decided to hit the Riverwalk.

We practically had the whole thing to ourselves. Mainly because we were the only idiots willing to battle 100 degree heat. However, after we snapped a few pics we decided we'd had our fill of San Antonio tourism for the day and opted to come back later in the year once the city cools down some.

We had a great day visiting with G-Daddy & Nana and Hadley had a very eventful and educational first to trip to good ol' San Antone!

The next day Lissie & I decided to make a stop at the University Co-op in Austin and do a quick tour of West Campus before heading back to Dallas. Unfortunately, it was one of the first days back to school for UT students and therefore crazy crowded. I've never felt cooler walking amongst 18 year old college kids with a Baby Bjorn strapped to my chest. ;) Oh well... I had my moments of glory - now I'm totally fine with embarrassing Hadley by taking family portraits with my newly acquired selfie stick! :)

This was the first of MANY trips to Austin for Hadley I'm sure! We are hopeful that she'll follow in Mom and Dad's (and Lissie's, and Gigi's, and Pops', and Uncle Cameron's...) footsteps and become a Longhorn one day! (And a DG)! :) No pressure...

Anyway, it was a great short-trip and we enjoyed getting to see family! We missed Daddy the whole time though and can't wait to go back when he can join us!

Mommy's 31st Birthday

I kept asking Hadley all week if she had any big surprises up her sleeve for Mommy's birthday. She wouldn't tell me a thing. She's really good at keeping secrets! Although I wasn't expecting very much from the day, Hadley did have a few special gifts for me! Her first...the gift of sleep! She slept from 9:30pm - 7:30am! 10 HOURS OF SLEEP! Without waking up once! Best. Baby. Ever. :)
Picture
Then, she decided she wanted to sing Mommy a very special rendition of the "Happy Birthday" song...
Yeah...she has some work to do on that one...

There really isn't too much excitement to be had when your birthday falls on a Tuesday and all of your friends and family have to go to work and the only human interaction you have is with a baby who spends most of the day eating her hands and drooling on herself. I was grateful, however, not to be spending my day in teacher staff development sessions and as such I was determined to make the best of my day and try and do a few fun things with my slobbering sidekick.
Picture
We spent the day running a few errands and then went to Breadwinners at Northpark Mall where Mommy treated herself to a yummy lunch (don't worry Had... I'll let you start picking up the tab when you start cashing in from the tooth fairy :)! Going out to eat with an infant, might not seem like good company, but we really did have a lovely time. We sat outside in the courtyard area where she smiled and cooed at Mommy the whole time , while other nearby children screamed at their Mommy's demanding more crackers or jumping off trees. I was thankful and proud to have the best behaved baby of Northpark! :)
Picture
After we, got home Hadley decided it was time for another surprise and she napped for 4 MORE HOURS! Unbelievable! There was even time for Mommy to take a little birthday siesta! Really Hadley... you are too good to me!

Once Daddy came home it was time to open my present, which he cleverly wrapped up using some supplies around the office.
Picture
I got a sewing machine! Woohoo! Just the gift this wild and crazy 31 year old was hoping for! No really... I'm super excited to start taking my crafting to the next level! :)

Then it was time for a fancier celebration where I could enjoy some conversation with someone not needing a bib.  Aunt Claire came over to watch Miss Hadley while Mason and I snuck off to enjoy a delicious french dinner at Le Bibloquet!

It was a pretty great day! Thank you to everyone, especially this little one, who helped to make it special! I look forward to all the fun to come in year 31!

3 Months Old

Another month older!? Already!??? Now that we are out of the newborn trenches, these months are really starting to fly by!

Happy 3 Months Hadley!!!
Picture
How's this for comparison...
Picture
I can't believe how much she has grown since we first started doing these! At least there wasn't too   drastic of a change between the 2 and 3 month pictures! Makes this Mama sad to think that my little baby isn't so little anymore. We sure are loving every second of watching her learn and do new things each day, though!

Here are some of Hadley's favorite things this month...
Picture
Milestones this Month:
  • 1st trip to church
  • Can really focus now on people and objects.
  • Clasps her hands together. Such a little lady!
  • Can reach (and grab) her toes!
  • Can grab items hanging from her activity mat.
  • Can hold onto items - like her pacifier and she even held her bottle for a bit the other night!
  • Started drooling and blowing bubbles.
  • Sits up pretty well, when supported.
  • Sat in her Bumbo chair for the first time.
  • Smiles all the time and is sooo close to laughing! :)
  • Can sit contently in her swing or bouncer for longer periods of time!
  • Has lots to "say"!

Clothing/Diapers:
She is now wearing size 0-3 months in clothing.. bye bye tiny newborn outfits! :( She also graduated to size 1 diapers.

Sleeping:
Hadley still sleeps swaddled in her Rock 'n Play in our room. She averages between 7-8 hours of straight sleep, usually going to bed around 9pm and waking up to eat at 5am. Then we let her go back to sleep in between us in our bed. She usually gets up for the morning around 7:30am! She set a new sleep record once this month with a time of 9 hrs and 45 minutes straight! :) We are oh so grateful that we were blessed with such a great sleeper!

Favorite Toy:
Bouncer

Hadley is such a happy and animated baby. We are very lucky for sure! During the day we try to keep her on an eat/play/sleep rotation "schedule". It helps us to stay on top of what she needs when she does get fussy.

Hadley, here are a few things that Mommy & Daddy have loved best about you this month.

We love...

Take Me to Church

8/2/2015

A few Sundays ago, the Guinn family drank of the communal wine (just grape juice, unfortunately) :) and joined Highland Park Methodist Church! l absolutely love this church! What's not to love? For starters, it's gorgeous - which makes going to church a much more holy experience - sorry I'm not sorry,  I totally judge books (and churches) by their cover! Secondly, the preacher is amazing, sprinkling in lots of humor throughout the sermon, my kinda guy! And last but most importantly to us, they have a fantastic children's program. Whether Hadley decides to become an active member of the church later in life is her decision, but we want to at least give her a Christian foundation.

We've only just now entered a somewhat predictable routine where we feel well-rested and can wake up, chug some caffeine, and be presentable enough to make it to church on a Sunday morning! For me, it's hard enough finding an outfit that's dressy, but not too tight, not too short, and looks conservative paired with 4 inch heels! Not an easy feat. Throw a baby in the mix and getting church-ready can take foooorrreeevvvverrrrr!  But my mom was in town and we were feeling confident, so we went for it!
Picture
Going to church also allows us to break out the adorable, fancy baby church clothes! Ugh, I just die! :)

For Hadley's first church experience, we decided to test out the baby nursery while we attended the service in the sanctuary. As first timers, we got her all checked in and left her in a room with approximately 3-4 other babies and plenty of reliable-looking nursery volunteers. I mean I didn't run a full background check or anything, but they seemed pretty legit. We dropped her of with all the major necessities - a bottle, diapers, her paci, the latest copy of US Weekly... everything she could possibly need in one hour's time! This church is pretty fancy too... they give you a pager to take with you in case they need to reach you for any reason during the service. So I filled out some basic paperwork and traded in my baby for a pager and then... I cried!
Picture
Not really, but I seriously teared up! Why is it so hard to leave your baby down the hall from you for just an hour? Maybe because it was the first time to leave her in the care of a non-family member. Maybe because she is growing up. Maybe because she is my little sidekick and I have forgotten what life is like without her attached at my hip! Who knows... but it was definitely harder than I ever imagined it would be. Ughhhh such a helicopter mom, I know! I can't help it, I'm completely obsessed with my baby girl! The entire time I secretly hoped they would page me to come rescue my sweet baby! That page never came. Our angel baby took a nap, had a bottle, and was peacefully rocking in the rocking chair with one of the church ladies when we came to pick her up! Being abandoned for the hour didn't phase her one bit.
Picture
It was a great first church experience and a routine we will try to keep up so that Hadley gets used to being in a new environment away from Mommy & Daddy! And more importantly so that Mommy gets used to being away from Hadley too!
Picture
Hadley, today as we sat in church for the very first time since your birth, I thanked God for the great blessing of being your parents! You are the greatest gift we have ever received! Thanks be to God! We love you! XOXO
