Week 7

Well  another week down! This is going pretty fast (says the girl with only 7 weeks under her belt...)!
Picture
What's baby up to?
  • Generating about one hundred new brain cells each MINUTE!
  • Developing a permanent set of kidneys.
  • Arm and leg joints are forming.
  • Eyes and nostrils are developing.

How's Mama?
Still pretty much the same! No nausea, and not that tired. But still battling the cold from HELL! Apparently when you are pregnant, your immune system more or less shuts down so as not to reject your baby. So... working with little disease carriers all day this year ought to be a good time. I'll have to up my hand sanitizing to every 30 seconds and start sporting the Michael Jackson mask look.
Picture
I'm also still cramping and feeling a little bloated. While Baby G has grown to the size of an adorable tiny blueberry, Mama is feeling like this:
Picture
I still haven't gained a single ounce though, so I won't complain too much. Actually, with my lack of symptoms so far I'm feeling extremely lucky! Hoping it stays that way!

Excited to travel down to Houston this weekend to share our news with Mason's parents! I know they will be thrilled! :)

33 more weeks to go!

Our sweet pea has doubled in size since last week! But not mama... still got it! ;)

What's Baby Up To?

  • Circulating blood
  • Brain chambers are forming
  • Heart contractions are beginning
  • Starting to  sprout a nose, eyes, ears, chin and cheeks
  • Wiggling their hands and feet

It's an exciting time for Baby G (and an important one) - hopefully he or she is getting extra cute right now! :)

How's Mama?

I am practically on my death bed right now. Not because of pregnancy symptoms, though. I have contracted the plague from my germy little students. It's one of the worst colds I have had in awhile and I can't even take medication, other than Tylenol which is worthless to me... :(

But on the bright side, I still have not had much nausea and no vomiting. I'm tired, but it probably has more to do with my cold (and cutting out coffee from my life) than the baby. I'm still having cramping, but apparently that's normal as my uterus (grossest word ever - I know) grows to support it's new tenant!

How's Daddy?

Passed out next to me (at 7:50pm). Yep, we're ready for an exciting life of parenthood! :)

34 more weeks to go!

Breaking news!

We were planning to wait to reveal our BIG news to my mom until next weekend, but she called earlier in the week to tell me that she was planning to come in town this weekend, causing us to need to speed things up a bit.

My not drinking any wine during her visit would have been a dead give-away, plus I'd been dying to tell her anyway.... so I had to create yet another reveal surprise.

Luckily, this one wasn't too hard to think up. My mom had text me on Monday morning to tell me that Kate Middleton was pregnant again! I knew that meant that my US Weekly would likely have tons of Royal Baby pregnancy coverage, and my mom always loves to catch up on her celeb gossip while visiting our house.  So... Friday after school I got a little crafty and doctored a few mags with our own "Shocking News"!
Picture
It's not my best work, but I was so afraid of fellow teachers walking into my classroom and busting me, that I was a little rushed!

Anyway, the plan was for Mason and I to be watching tv and hanging out in the living room and have these articles casually open on the coffee table while waiting for my mom to join us and notice them.

Unfortunately, she did not sit in her "usual" chair so I had to shift my eye gaze to the magazines to get her to look at them. Luckily, she took the bait! I was able to sneakily capture her reaction on film:
We were thrilled to finally be able to start sharing the news with family!

Next up: we are looking forward to sharing our baby secret with Mason's parent's in a couple of weeks when we go down to Houston for a visit! :)

Pregnancy isn't the most fun thing in the world - but this part of it has been the best!

Week 5

Yesterday, I hit the 5 week marker of my pregnancy! According to my "The Bump" App our little Johnny Appleseed is growing rapidly, beginning to develop it's nervous system (brain and spinal cord) and skeleton this week. Crazy how it all happens so fast!
Picture
So far I am still feeling great! No nausea, not overly tired (just normal school teacher tired), no aches and pains, and no food aversions. Other than very slight cramping I don't really feel any differently than I normally do. I'm praying to Baby Jesus that this trend continues. I've been reading that nausea and vomiting occur in approx. 70% of mothers and that it usually begins sometime in the 6th week, but I'm crossing my fingers and toes that I'm among the lucky 30 percentile!

I do, however, bring a bottle of water with sliced lemon and ginger to sip on while at school... just in case. Also, the kids keep me on my toes, so the day goes by quickly and I have little time to even think about the fact that I'm pregnant.

My only symptom thus far, is that I feel like I am more easily annoyed by small things (noises, dumb questions, etc) and my patience is a little less than what it normally would be. Guess it's the hormones. Or maybe that just comes with 5 years of being in the classroom with immature 6th graders. Not sure?

I'm still wrapping my head around all of this and it still doesn't quite feel real. I called my OB-GYN and spoke to the receptionist to book our first appointment. It was so nice to FINALLY hear a congratulations from someone! So now we're up to 4 people who know our little secret. ;)

I'm scheduled to visit on October 6th and Mason will come with me for our first sonogram and to listen to the heartbeat. I'm sure that will make it feel more legit. I also can't really envision it completely without knowing the sex yet. It's hard for me to get in big time baby mode  without knowing if it's a BOY or a GIRL! We will definitely be finding out as soon as we are able to. Then the real fun (A.K.A pink or blue shopping frenzy) can begin! :)

Whether it's footballs or pom poms.... I'm growing more excited each day to welcome our little tiny into the world! 35 more weeks to go!

Letting It Sink In

Well this was a first. Probably my first completely sober weekend in who knows how long...

...and you know what? It wasn't so bad! I got so much accomplished without our usual weekend mimosa indulgence that lead to long afternoon cat naps. We played tennis, I caught up on laundry, lesson planned, grocery shopped, and even cleaned the bathroom - you know just in case I start finding myself in there more frequently.

Who knew? No booze = P-R-O-D-U-C-T-I-V-I-T-Y. We'll see how long that lasts. The productivity I mean, not the no booze. I've got approximately 35 more weeks of that left to look forward to.

On Saturday morning, however, first thing was first. I got Sleepyhead up and at 'em (gotta start training him early) to get a jump start on our day. We headed to Half Price Books to stock up on baby breeding literature.

I have been wanting to go baby book shopping since we started trying, but was making myself wait until it was the real deal. Such self control, I know.

But now that things are a go, I plan to wear out the family planning sections of the bookstore and all the mommy blogs out on the world wide web. Hey... I'm sober, I have a LOT of free time on my hands!

Mason was so embarrassed to be in the Parenting section of Half Price Books. He was all, "What if we see someone we know?"

I'm like, " We will inconspicuously tell them that we're buying for someone else...duh!" So smooth...

Anyway, there are a LOT of books about babies. I couldn't decide between the timeless "What to Expect When You're Expecting" or "The Baby Bump" because it was colorful and had lots of pictures. Uhh! But I HAVE to have the "Hot Mom To Be Handbook". Decisions, decisions... so we bought five books! A respectable starter kit. Mason even left with his own Daddy-To-Be book!

He quickly fled the scene when it was time to check out, however. Guess it was a little too embarrassing to be seen purchasing "I knocked my girl up" books on a Saturday morning. Don't worry - I made sure my wedding ring was prominently displayed while swiping my debit card.

You know what is the cutest thing ever!?! Mason has spent all weekend, in between football games of course, reading up on what to expect during my pregnancy. I am so blessed to have a partner who is in this whole heartedly with me and already looking out for my and Baby G's best interest. We love him so!

So now we're up to three people in the world who know about the little one. Me, Mason, and the guy at Half Price Books. I'm ready to shout it from the rooftops! But remember, I'm super patient! :)

Oh. Shit.

Having a baby has always been on our to-do list. I'm not really a fly by the seat of my pants kind of gal. I knew what my wedding date would be before we got engaged. I have my Christmas Cards printed in September. I probably have my work outfits lined up for the next six weeks.  So you can rest assured that this baby was planned. To a tee.

We've spent over two years being happily married. We've been both the maid of honor and best man in our best friend's weddings. We've crossed a trip to Europe together off our bucket list; and I just crossed over into my 30's a few weeks ago. Now that all major milestones have been achieved, creation of life is next.

No matter how mapped out our life is, nothing can prepare you for a positive pregnancy test. Shit just got real.

They say it can take a few months or even a year to conceive. I had a sneaking suspicion that we'd get pregnant the first time we tried. I was humbled, however, after taking a test two days before my missed period, to get a negative result. I know your supposed to wait until your missed period to take the test, but it was Labor Day and I couldn't resist the cuteness of "Oh, we found out we were pregnant on Labor Day!". I'm psychotic I know.

Anyway, so I really didn't think our first attempt was going to work. Which led to a whole evening of google searches like "WHAT'S WRONG WITH ME?????"

After a few days, however, Aunt Flo, was still a no-show and I was slightly nauseous off and on all day Friday (Sept. 5th). So as soon as school was over, I headed to my local CVS and bought a pregnancy test all by myself Like. A. Boss. (I usually make Mason do my dirty work). ;)

Positive.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!! I'm PREGNANT!!!!!!!! :) :) :) :)

Oh. Shit. I'm pregnant.

Oh, crap. Mason is going to be home in two hours! MUST WHIP UP SOMETHING PINTERESTY to let him know he's going to be a Daddy!!!

Ok, so it's not Martha Stewart quality, but it's all the materials I had on hand.

Here is Mason's (very long and drawn out) reaction at learning the news:

So, that's that. We went to dinner at one of our favorites, Royal China, that evening to celebrate! Mason ordered a glass of Cabernet and I smelled it and we spent the evening brainstorming how and when we would spill the beans to our family and friends.

As I am writing this, none of you know yet! Crazy! The biggest secret of my life!!! Hard to keep, but incredibly special to share only with my love for now.

Let the journey as Mom and Dad begin!
